Business Professionals of America is a national organization for students who are enrolled in or have in the past been enrolled in business and computer technology classes or who may or may not be interested in pursuing a career in these areas.
Anyone at Hondo High School can join. It is recommended that members should be enrolled in or have already completed a business or technology class, but it is not necessary.
The Area II, Region II Competition is held in January.
State Competition is held in March.
National Competition is held in May.
Texas is broken into 6 areas. We are in Area II, Region II. HHS competes with all schools in our region at the regional competition.

There are competitive events available for nearly every interest and ability. There are numerous computer events including graphics, presentations and programming. Other computer events involve using specific software and applications such as keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, database applications, and desktop publishing. There are several speaking events, interview skills events, and competitions in the accounting or math area as well as medical and legal fields. Most are individual competitions but there are some team events such as parliamentary procedure, presentation graphics, economic research and website development.
Your chances of succeeding are very good if you are willing to put in a little extra time and effort into practicing. Our chapter has a successful tradition. We have had numerous students that advance from Area to State and students have been to National Competition 9 of the last 15 years.
You will have the opportunity to belong to an organization where you can practice the workplace skills you learn in class in a competitive setting. You can receive recognition for winning at competitions as well as for participating in other awards programs in Business Professionals of America. Scholarships are awarded and available for active members. Perhaps the greatest benefit is in the skills, leadership and friendships that you will build.
Dues are $25.00 per year. $22 of the dues goes to state and national dues.  We raise funds for registration fees for all 3 competitions by operating the basketball concession stand in November and December.
